“Photokina 2010 New Leica Cameras” Unveiled in Hong Kong


Grand Opening of “Leica LOVE Project” 


Schmidt Group of Companys, distributor of renowned German camera brand Leica, held a  “Photokina 2010 New Leica Cameras” Media Preview at the ifc in Central on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. On show were the new Leica M9 Titanium, X1 BLACK, V-Lux 2, D- Lux 5 and Silverline binoculars. The flagship product of the preview was the new Leica M9 Titanium, an exclusive special edition camera of 500 pieces that is the result of Leica’s first time collaboration with Walter de’Silva, the prominent automobile designer who is responsible for the groundbreaking design concepts for the latest models from the Volkswagen Group.



 In addition, the event also served as the grand opening of the “Leica LOVE Project” photo exhibition to raise funds for ORBIS. Mr Ulrich Buchholtz, Group Chairman of Schmidt Group of Companys; Mr Jackie Chan, President of Schmidt Marketing (H.K.) Ltd.; Dr. Martin Picherer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Leica Camera AG; Mr Sunil Kaul, Managing Director of Leica Camera Asia Pacific; Mr Rico Leung, Director of Leica Store Hong Kong; Ms Mary Lau, Director of Development of ORBIS Hong Kong, as well as 3 of the contributors Michele Reis, Danny Chau and Zhou Yi officiated at the grand opening ceremony.  The Leica LOVE Project” exhibits the works of Wing Shya, Creative Director of the exhibition, and 11 contributors including famous personalities and artists from different backgrounds. They all used Leica cameras to capture images with their own interpretation of the theme of “LOVE”. These 11 contributors are: Danny Chau, photographer; Dennis Chan, Qeelin’s designer and Chairman; Maggie Q, actress; Sean K, stylist; Suitman a.k.a. Young Kim, artist and designer; TK, founder of “Milk” magazine; Vernie Yeung, TVC Director; Zhou Yi, artist; as well as showbiz celebrities Michele Reis, Ronald Cheng and Shawn Yu.

The “Leica LOVE Project” exhibition is a meaningful event. The 12 contributors will donate their photos on display at the ifc mall for a charity auction, with the proceeds going to ORBIS to help visually impaired people worldwide and to spread the message of love. The minimum bid price for the photos are HK$10,000 each and those interested in placing their bids can download the bidding form, or pick up a bidding form from Leica store, Leica boutique, EXI.T and Pure Studio.




In addition, Schmidt Marketing has released four “LOVE Albums” from the exhibition photos with a retail price of HK$2,600 each. The exquisite “LOVE Albums” were made by hand in Germany using top quality leather and are highly collectable.  Net proceeds of the albums will be donated to ORBIS.


The “Leica LOVE Project” exhibition runs from October 19 to 24, 2010 at the Oval Atrium located at Podium Level 1 at the ifc mall. Thereafter, the exhibition will be held at EXI.T in Causeway Bay from October 26 to November 11, and the Pure Studio 52 in Chaiwan from November 1 to 30.
